Clearing FAQs

Clearing, or UCAS Clearing, allows you to study the course right for you at the university of your choice after the normal UCAS cycle has finished on July 4. Every year, Clearing helps thousands find a university place and a home for the next 3 years (or beyond). Clearing opens on 5 July – 17 October 2024 (21 September 2024 - Final date for 2024 UCAS undergraduate applications). Prospective students can apply for a course using Clearing if they are not already holding an offer from a university or college, and the course still has places. If you have your results already you can call us on 020 8411 6565 from July 1st and we can prepare your offer for when Clearing opens on July 5. If you are waiting for your results on August 15 we can support and reassure you or your net steps on results day.

There are lots of reasons why people apply through Clearing. You can too if:

  • You changed your mind on what or where you would like to study and have used Self Release
  • You haven't applied through UCAS yet
  • You didn't receive or 'haven't accepted any offers
  • You didn't get the right grades for your firm, and insurance offer
  • You want to transfer from another university or college. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

If you have your results, you can apply now. Clearing opens on July 5 and closes on the 17 October. Places are on a first come, first serve basis, so get in touch as soon as possible to secure your place on your course of choice. Most Clearing activity takes place around A-level results day. Other qualifications, such as BTEC, SQA and QCF & RCF, will also be released on this day.  We'll be available from 8am on results day to support you with your applications and enquiries. However, you can beat the rush by signing up for a priority phone call.

You can call us now if you have your results on 020 8411 6565 to talk through your options. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

Most courses are available through Clearing, as long as places are available. We advise applying as early as possible to avoid disappointment as we close the courses when they become full.  &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

To make the most of your Clearing call, have your exam results, UCAS ID (if applicable), and a list of courses you're interested in ready. If you have specific questions or concerns, jot these down too so we can address them during the call.

Yes. Student loans are available for any eligible students accepted through Clearing. You should apply as soon as possible to avoid delays to your first payment. If you've applied late to Student Finance England and won't receive your first loan payment by the start of the term, we can provide short-term loans of up to £500. Pick up a form from your local Student Centre on campus. Suppose you've already applied for a loan but changed universities during Clearing. In that case, you must notify your loan provider (Student Finance England or similar). We also offer a range of scholarships and bursaries that may benefit you.
